Getting ready to begin helping a friend redo their kitchen. Quartz counter tops and back splash as well..

Question: Silestone is 5/4 thick. what to do regarding electrical boxes (outlets) that will be in the back splash. This is going to be total gut jb so things will be rewired and moved around abit...and I know the CT folks will be responsible for templates and installation. I'm asking regard to electrical boxes...ie.. how to mount/type etc so as not to present problems with back splash etc

Anybody personally done this....what's the potential probs..

thxs

I have just used spacers to remount the outlets/switches and then the plate on top with existing walls. It works so well I probably would just mount boxes flush on a new wall.

I have granite backsplash, as for the outlets, the installers will cut out for existing electrical boxes. You may have to buy longer screws to remount the faceplates but thats it.

Silestone comes in different thicknesses- so, if you thought you were going to be putting up 5/4 for b/spl- think again. They have specific material that is designed for interior wall applications. I think it is about 3/8" thick (it's been awhile since I've seen any). So, your question about the recepticles should be of little consequence as others mentioned.
