Just wondering if we should bother having the home builder wire all the rooms for ceiling fans. Here in the dry heat of southern California ceiling fans make a huge difference and definitely keep our utility costs down because we don't have to run the AC as often. But I wasn't sure if ceiling fans would have as much of a cooling impact in the humidity. Thoughts? Opinions?

It's still worth it, definitely! You'll still have the ac on a lot, but the fans will allow you to not rely as heavily on it....and keep the circulation going, which helps things "feel" cooler.
Plus on more moderate days in the spring and fall you can keep the ac off, open a window or two and have the fan on light and it'll feel good.

I laugh when I see these home decor shows like "Trading Spaces" and the decorator wants to take out the fans and replace with some fancy lighting...I'm like "what, are you from Alaska or something??".

Yes, that always seems to be a great point of contention on those shows; the homeowner begs to keep the fan and the decorator usually rips it out anyway. I never understood that.

Anyway, I've been leaning toward having fans but just wanted to make sure it wasn't completely pointless having never lived in a humid climate. So thank you for your input.

You'll never be cleaner living in a humid climate due to all the showers you take in one day! Good for the skin too! Where will you be moving to that is humid?

I would do it. The three bedrooms in the house we just bought don't have celing fans but are all pre-wired for fans and we plan on installing them ourselves. Having the rooms wired for fans was definitely a plus when we were considering the house. My wife loves the idea of fans in every bedroom. We get a lot of sunlight in them so it will be nice to have the fans since the rooms sometimes get warm eventhough it is way too early to put the AC on.

I vote yes on the ceiling fan. Something else to consider is a whole house fan (some people call this an attic fan). We used to turn ours on for an hour or so before we went to bed in the summer. It's great. It cools down everything very quickly and fills the house with fresh air.

They obviously never heard of "Form follows Function". I wonder how many of them put ceilings fans back up.

We have fans in nearly every room here and they run even in the winter on "reverse". Even a humid breeze feels better than stagnant humidity.

Yes, ceiling fans are nice, we have them in two rooms, the living room and the master bedroom but why oh why oh why do all of them inevitably get the "ting ting ting" of the thing hitting the fan? It is always at 2 in the morning and will wake me up, drives me NUTS.

Doesn't matter the fan, cheap or not........it is so irritating.

We bought a home with ceiling fans in every room, including the screened porch! I love them.

We never had a ceiling fan before - how does one run the fan "in reverse" ?

Their is a little switch up at the top. One way for summer months, the other way for winter months to pull the heat around the room. hmmmm that always confused me. Go look at yours they should all have that switch.
