Bamboo floors from Costco?? (subfloor, refinish, install, rooms)

Is it cost effective?

Is it a relatively easy job for a few square rooms and halls? (husband is very handy)

Has anyone done it before? Does anyone have pictures of a finished room?

We researched Costco floors when we were getting bamboo floors. They only have tongue and grove nail/glue down. This did not really work for our basement, as we didn't want to install a subfloor for nailing, nor use the glue down method (my understanding is that glue down is the hardest install method). My husband use to work in flooring, and repaired and refinished our upstairs oak floors (with the help of a friend who still does that work). We went with a floating floor for ease of install. I can't recommend where we bought our floors as they went out of buisness nationwide about a week ago.

So that said, in my research, Costco floors seemed to have decent reviews. People complained of scratches and dents, but thats to be expected of any natural wood product. From what I read, if yuo go with bamboo, use staples rather than nails, as a flooring nailer is likley to break the tongue off.

Another thing, from what I read, all bamboo floors come from China, and there are only about four different manufacturers there. Its the importer that brands it.

Bamboo sucks, it scratches big time. More than other wood products IMO. I say avoid Bamboo.

We have a cork hallway. Cork is softer than bamboo (prettier too). It is a floating floor (very easy to instal). It holds up very well. It all depends on what it is coated with. Even if all the floor material comes from the same place, the engineering, backing and coating make all the difference in the world.

I would skip Cosco though. Then you will end up with the exact same floor as everyone else has. Guest will say "Oh you have that Cosco floor too." Find something unique online. Then your guests will say "Wow what a cool floor I have never seen anything like it"

Good point about the Costco floors. I was actually at the doctors office yesterday and it looked like they had the Costco floors in the waiting room. I asked the lady next to me "do you think those floors are from Costco?" She said "yeah I think they are because we are looking at getting them". So point taken about the commonness of the Costco floors. I think cork (beautiful by the way) would be out of our budget. We just want something that looks nice and not so high end. We are not high end people quite yet, if ya know what I mean.

Find a unique bamboo online then, but get a floating floor. You just lay it down. No nails, glue, nothing. It is easy to replace a piece too. Then get a really good coating system put on a lot of coats.

Avoid IFloor. They are apparantly going out of business.
