I opened the tank, and instead of fresh water being sprayed into the tank, it's barely a trickle. The tank does eventually fill, but it takes about an hour or more. The upstairs toilet, and the water pressure everywhere else,is fine. I checked the valve that connects to the water supply, and it's turned all the way on. Any advice?
Some supply lines have a valve in them that shuts water off if it flows too freely. A safety device to keep you from doing the back stroke if something breaks. If you changed the line recently I would suspect this valve. The way I made mine work was to turn water supply off and open slowly only until you get good flow not wide open. That allowed us to use until I got another line. If this isn't it you have a restriction in the supply line somewhere.
Replace the line from the shut off valve and the float assenbly inside the tank. Remove old assembly and the metal line...have a small pan to catch any water and slowly turn valve on for some pressure flow test before installing new assembly. Very cheap to replace with a couple of wrenchs. Steve
Steve is right. For $20.00 or less you can replace everything that can cause the problem. Why fool with it.
