Hummm.. not a huge fan of Goodman. I prefer Rheem. Reasonably priced... universal parts..easy to install and they have some great new products out. The 16 seer 2-stage..what a beauty! Just installed our first one a few weeks ago..what a set-up! The Tstat was almost $200.00! Talk about a quiet unit! http://www.rheemac.com/products/ProductInfo.aspx?XSL_File=rheemac_products.xsl&Mar ket=Residential&SectionVar=Cooling&Category=Conden sing%20Units (broken link)
... but to summarize, I need to see if the secondary pan can be replaced and the leak sealed. If the attic unit does need to be replaced, does $3000 sound about right? And if so, then I will look into brands. Does anyone have a guess as to what the $10,000 reference might have been about? When I asked "is that for both?" he sort of had this look like "lady, you don't even know the start of your problems". It was so far beyond anything that I was going to spend that I didn't pursue it. He might have been suggesting that the 10K would replace everything, including furnaces. I just, again, was knocked off my rockers so I didn't pursue it.

For now..I would have them install a secondary drain pain..plastic one not metal! It'll get you through for now. Is the furnace even required to be replaced? Perhaps..depending on the age of the units, they can simply replace the Acoil and primary drain pan? It's hard to say without seeing your setup. I like Rheem...
10K for both without the furnace replacement sounds about right. But are you even having issues with the second unit? Go with the cheapest route for now..buy a season and save up for upgrading in the near future. Money's tight these days for everyone
10k for both might be ok in rural Kentucky but in Manhattan it could be 10k for each piece of equipment.
Don't go by price if you do you will end up regretting it. You need to verify your contractor has a clue first.
One incompetent contractor can charge you $10k for each system and a contractor who knows everything inside and out that does load calculations and verifies duct work could charge you $6k a piece. No one on here can give you an estimate unless they have been to your house.
My brother built a house 5 years ago and his house is 2500 sq ft. The AC and heat pump together was 5800.00 that is in Indiana.
