5 flew in through an open, screenless window last night. Now, they are hanging out on my high vaulted ceiling in the office (which has extra clothes stored in the closets of this room). How do I get rid of them? I would prefer to get them out without hurting them, but I am not sure if that is possible. I've read online that a moth infestation is bad news, so I need to eradicate them before they start laying eggs and causing trouble. Any suggestions?
how about moth balls in the closet so they stay out of there. eventually they will go toward a light where you can either kill them or try to "safely" get them outside
like others have said, they will go toward the a light. Invert a small waste basket and hold it over the light, and try to shoo them into it, they will fly UP and you can take them outside and release them.
Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think we got them all, and this is how we (actually DH) did it: he took this very long spider web/duster cleaner thing, opened the window and got a few to fly out by lightly swatting at them. The others weren't so lucky, but we believe they are no more. Hopefully, there aren't any hiding in places we can't see them.
If you find that the moths left "babies" behind and new moths start appearing in closets or cabinets, moths don't like bay. So, you can place bay leaves or sprinkle ground bay wherever they show up.
Good luck, we have a moth problem. We have had it for over a year and have tried everything to get rid of them. I have put cedar chips in every drawer, closet and room in the house. I have tried other methods as well and nothing except killing them as we see them, helps.
