Has anyone put an electronic Air Filtration system in their home? Does it make a measurable difference in air quality? One of the builders we are interested in offers it as an option (haven't asked the cost yet ) & it's something we are considering. I don't know anyone that has one so we're looking, once again, to this forum for advice! TIA!

Yes-we do and it does work to remove odors and stale air. When we first moved into our home (it was a spec home)-we could not get an answer from anyone, inlucing heating/ac people, as to how to set it. We don't use it much in winter but do in spring/summer and fall.

Does it make a difference in the dust in your home? My current home (and my neighbors) seems to generate alot of dust. We are now using the micro filters that help with allergens and pet dander, supposively. It's made a little difference.. At first, I thought maybe my house got dustier because of our Goldens but my neighbors have the same complaints. Someone mentioned that the Air filtration systems are helpful with this along with the benefit of air quality...

We have one and I love it. Works great for my daughters asthma. Your builder will charge you a lot more than a HVAC guy will, though. I would look into having it done by a Heating and Air guy.
What kind were they wanting to put in? Some are easier to clean than others. You have to clean them once a month. Some can just be run through the dishwasher!!

You may also want to upgrade the type of furnace filters you use. That will make a difference with air quality, too.

Honeywell works better AND it can go through the dishwasher. American Standard is the best, but more complicated to clean every month.

we have the honeywell unit that has the 4 inch media filter - you replace it every 6-12 months depending on factors, like if you have animals. It's helped my wife's allergies. We also had a uv light installed at the same time as the media filter unit, but they didn't install it properly, so for the first year it never turned on. But in the first year, my wifes allergies got better, so we know the filter actually had an effect.
