I have a 65 pint GE dehumidifier that is about 5 months old. Bought it because at the time it seemed to be a decent unit according to reviews and of course now all the reviews are terrible. The unit did a good job when I first got it and most of the summer, but now I think its on its way out. Now the fan just seems to run constantly and the humidity won't go below 75% according to the readout. I have always made sure to clean the filter and there is no ice build up on the coils. It is still removing the moisture from the air, but not as much as it used to. I've even let it sit off overnight and it hasn't made a difference. GE is basically giving me a run-around because I don't have the box it came in anymore and I can't find the receipt.

Anybody have any recommendations for a good 65-70pint dehumidifier for my basement? My only demands are for a hose connection on it and for automatic fan cycle. Seems like there are so many units out there with a bad rap.

Do you have an accurate humidistat? If the weather is drying out a unit will naturally be extracting less moisture. Get a digital hygrometer to verify the settings -- Amazon.com: Extech 445703 Big Digit Hygro-Thermometer with Min/Max: Home Improvement

If you really need a quality unit go with a Friedrich -- Friedrich D70BP 70-Pint Dehumidifier - 30 Day Trial & Free Shipping these things are much better built.

I bought one this spring as well (ADER65) on sale at HD and mis-marked down to $189.
No complaints here. It consistently pulled humidity down to the 45-50% level
(as measured against an old school mechanical and a remote electronic humidistat).

No I don't have a humidistat. I didn't even know Friedrich was still around, haven't heard of them in years lol. How do the Frigidaire dehumidifiers stack up?

The units seem to last no more than a few years. I had a Frigidaire which got quite corroded and finally just wouldn't function any longer. The fan ran, the compressor ran, but the coil was shot.

I replaced it with a couple of LG units. They are about three years old now and seem to still be preforming well.

I find that you must keep the fan, filter and the coils clean for the most effective operation.

Finally got an answer from GE they said I have to bring it back where I got it from for an exchange which would be walmart

I've had the best luck with Santa Fe, but that's more of a whole house type dehumidifier.
