we're attempting to build a soffit over the exposed hvac duct in the basement. we're newbies and i don't think we know what we're doing but that's beside the point. once we build the soffit over the duct, what should we use now to extend so the air can pass to the new vent over the soffit (now drywall). it's going to be about 5 inches longer. i hope someone understood what i was trying to explain..lol

Round or rectangular duct? What size? What's the current vent look like? Is this return or supply? Pictures might help too.
