I have an area 4' X 4' of tiles at the front door area that has wood trim and we are laying hardwood floors in the rest of the living room. I want to restain the trim to match the new floor but the tile has grout right next to the trim. How do I stain the trim without getting any stain into the grout. Any suggestions would help.
It shouldn't have grout in the seam between wood and tile. It should have caulk so it can move when the wood does. I would get a grout saw and remove the grout, stain and finish your wood, then get a similar color caulk and fill the seam.
Seal the grout with a grout sealer. Then, before staining cover with duct tape(don't use masking or painter's- stain can bleed through.
Another suggestion- remove wood trim and run new flooring to tile.
