Our living room serves as a home office. There are no lights on the ceiling. It's a tall cathedral ceiling. Don't really want canned lights. Existing torche lamps with 150W (CFL equivalent) bulbs are inadequate since a very high ceiling. Would like a ceiling fan. I like the indirect effect of light being directed up to the ceiling and reflected back into the room. An ideal solution would be a large ceiling fan with light fixtures pointing up and the light fixtures located ABOVE the blades. The amount of light would have to be maybe 6 X 100 watts (I'd use CFLs so really about 1/4 of that many watts for the equivalent light).
I have seen a few with uplighting but the bulbs are small, probably 100W total, not bright enough.
Anyone ever seen anything like that? I've seen some ceiling fans with light fixtures but the lamps almost all point down OR the light fixtures are located BELOW the fan and point up thus being partially blocked by the fan motor housing and fan blades.
Not sure how to do links, but Google " Dan's Fan City" and then search " Sunrise ". I bought one for the same reasons you are looking for one. There is no strobe effect, it comes with a remote control, and the up lights, the downlights, and the fan all work independently of each other. The remote also has a dimmer for each light. A bit pricey, but it has form AND function. Yay!

Found it but the it says the light pointing up is accent light, 120 watts.
Understood, but also consider that a ceiling fan is much higher than any floor lamp, and at full on, not an accent light. I have 12 foot ceilings myself. You may also find that you can replace the bulbs. As long as you don't pull more than 120 watts, you're good. I can't imagine how bright a CFL or LED bulb would be if it pulled the full 120. Perhaps it can work for you.
