We recently remodeled our kitchen. It was a full remodeling job. That is, we demolished the old kitchen and got new cabinets, floors, microwave, and lighting. We did, however, keep our old refrigerator.
We are going to replace our kitchen and are trying to decide between black and white. I want to keep our appliances white because it's a small kitchen, because the walls are white, and because I like light colors.
My aunt, however, thinks that a black stove is better and she thinks that we should eventually get a black refrigerator and microwave. She thinks that black is more modern and more popular. She also thinks that homebuyers prefer black appliances.
I'm going to attach a few photos of our cabinets. As you can see, we still have to paint the walls and do the countertop.
White or stainless steel color I would suggest. Black poularity is fading out, it shows the dirt, fingerprints, smudges more than the other colors. It also is too shiny reflecting back too much.
Our kitchen looks almost identical to yours. Our cabinets look exactly the same and the same set up. We have white appliances in ours. Colors, except white seem to go in and out of style in fads, where white is forever.
That's my opinion.
My pick would be stainless steel. However, since stainless steel isn't on the list of options, out of the two black appliances will generally give a home a better resale value than white appliances. Our builder (Fulton Homes) doesn't even offer white appliances as an option. While black appliances peaked in popularity in the 1990s, they still remain a second choice behind stainless steel.
In the OP's original post, she mentioned that her aunt felt that "homebuyers preferred black appliances". That's why I was wondering if they intended to sell.
We did a mini-update on our oak kitchen this past year.
We got a black fridge. It goes well with the black and brown quartz countertop. When the almond dishwasher and MW die, they will be replaced with black.
Is your fridge new?
What color walls & countertops are you thinking?
Have you chosen your countertops, yet? That will make a big difference in color selection.
IMO, you should go with what you like. It's your kitchen. While I prefer SS, it wasn't an option.
