I have a French Drain question about how many to use in a garden area that is about 10 feet wide in front of my house. I am not attaching to the gutter. I already have an extended closed pipe from the gutter and will be installing a catch basin near it, as alot of excess water accumulates. However, under the sloped garden, to the left of the gutter and extending for about 10 feet further to the left, I need to create some drainage. My plan was to install a 10 ft perf PVC pipe running in teh center of the garden, facing perpendicular to the garden and away from the house. Of course I will be doing proper grading, but my question is will a single drain be sufficient to cover drainage for a 10 foot wide garden area or do I need to install drains every 3 feet to cover the area sufficiently? I cannot find anything about this online and was hoping someone could provide an answer.

Thanks!

Depend upon how well the soil drains... some sandy soils allow rapid movement, some clays actually hold water. One drain should be sufficient but you may have to do some minor work to get adjoining areas to drain to it.
