Hi all. I just purchased and had installed a new air conditioner unit and compressor. My A/C guy originally quoted me $4200 for a Maytag installed, which included moving a breaker box. (I'm not sure how many tons)...I was told Maytag gives a $300 credit and my power company gives a $350 credit, so I'm basically looking at $3600, which after researching on the internet didn't seem so bad.

Instead they installed a Broan. I looked up Broan on the reviews and it seems well and good, but now I'm not sure about the rebate. I couldn't find anything online that Maytag manufactures Broan? I'm wondering if I was given the slip and had an inferior product installed. I'm waiting to hear back from my A/C guy. I trust him completely and have used him for over ten years.

Does anyone have any experience with Broan, and is it as good as Maytag? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Neither of those names is one I think of for HVAC, but here is probably the reason why: a company called Nordyne makes them both, under licensing arrangements. (This is not the actual Maytag/Whirlpool and/or Broan companies making these.) So it's fairly likely that they are pretty equivalent quality-wise, but it wouldn't be wrong to ask the A/C guy what is going on since it's not the same brand you were expecting. And sure you need to find out about the rebate, although I would guess that also comes from Nordyne so it may still apply.

So sure, you can now ask the A/C guy knowing that they're made by the same company, but I don't think that means you shouldn't ask him. It's not a subtle thing, there's the unit outside, it says a different brand than you were expecting, so heck yeah ask him why. And were you not home to question them at the time?

I am admittedly a little behind the curve but I've never heard of "Broan". Perhaps you mean "Bryant" in which case you're probably okay.

It is in fact Broan as in the same brand that makes bath fans and range hoods. See Broan HVAC | Broan Energy Efficient Air Conditioning HVAC systems | AC

Actually, to adjust my earlier post, digging into it more, the parent company Nortek actually does own Broan-NuTone, the company that makes the bath fans and such. Nortek also owns Nordyne, the company that makes these A/C units in question. Maytag is a brand that Nordyne uses under license (Maytag of appliance fame is of course now a division of Whirlpool). Nordyne shouldn't have to license Broan since their parent company owns that, though it still means this separate subsidiary makes the HVAC stuff.

For the 4th consecutive time, NORDYNE is recognized by Copeland as having the fewest compressor failures in the industry.
Nordyne Time Line

Copeland is the major manufacturer of compressors and they're used in most central HVAC systems in some form or another and have been for some time now.

Nordyne, the parent company of Broan, has had one of the highest efficiency units available on the market for some time now. They have a unit that actually can be certified as 24.5 SEER.

You'll be fine with a Broan system, they have been well known for making higher quality products that perform well and last too.

You most likely got a good contractor if they're certified to install Nordyne equipment. Nordyne doesn't just let anyone install their products. It would be good though to see pics of the system if that's possible.
