Help! I'm trapped at home with an ant infestation!

Ok, my dh is out-fo-town, and my car doesn't work, stalled battery. Ok, dh will be back tomorrow.

In the meantime, I discovered a trail of ants marching right in to the bathroom, through a crack in the wall going outside! WTD

Usually, in such cases, I'd nuke 'em with Raid, but we don't have any bug spray! What can I use with household ingredients? I thought I read somewhere to use cinammon, or pepper, something like that..........any ideas? I'm afraid to use the bathroom

borax powder does a good job with lots of bugs.
powdered laundry detergent might do that too.

(gets on their feet, they lick them clean, then they die)

Just wait for your husband to get home. Then you can get some good poison traps for them to take back to the colony.

If you don't have boric acid, perhaps pour some salt in front of the crack. Ants usually won't try to cross it.

Ok, I read cinammon works, or pepper. I first mopped up all available ants with a vinegar solution, then washed it down the drain. Then, poured salt right into the crack they're coming out of. I do believe there's an ant mound right outside the wall, tomorrow will get some of that stuff, whatever its called, Antbgone, or something like that, you pour on ant mounds.

I've been told Raid is not so good, it just breaks up their trails and they take another path, and then create more mounds, then you have even more ants!

This stuff works great if you give it time to work. Read the FAQs. Lots to learn about ants there.
Ant Problem? Terro = Ant Control Solutions

"This is a BAIT type product and will initially attract lots of ants. The ants consume large quantities of the bait and then return to the nest and share it with the rest of the colony, including the queen, eventually eliminating the entire colony. This process can take from just a couple days to several weeks, depending on the size of the colony. Each ant that consumes the bait will die within 24 - 48 hours. It is recommended to leave the bait station as undisturbed as possible while the ants are actively feeding on it. You should replace it only if it becomes inaccessible to the ants, or empty."

Short term solution: Windex. Blue kind. Spray it where the ants are. Kills the ants and keeps them from coming in for a couple of days.

Long term solution: Terro (Good job Gimme.)

Any store with a decent garden/home improvement section should carry it. Ants are such a problem in SoCal you can buy Terro in the grocery stores. One minor warning: Cats LOVE to bat these disks around the house. If you have cats you have to place the disks where the cats can't get at them, i.e., behind a piece of furniture.

WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot, they all carry it.

Just a FYI: There's a Wally World and a Lowes side by side near me. The last time I bought Terro, I first checked WW, then Lowes. WW was about 25% cheaper than Lowes for the same amount of product.
