For buying appliances (washer and dryer) at Sears, it is better to buy during their Sears Friends and Family Sale or one of their holiday sales like the upcoming Washington’s Birthday?
Does one typically offer a better deal over the other?
Stop by Sears and ask one of their appliance salespeople. They usually have the scoop on upcoming events and will know which one will have the best offer on the particular appliance you want.
Thought of that, but since they generally work on commission, wasn't too sure of how forthcoming they would be with info like that.

F&F days are your best bet usually since those discounts are applied on top of any other sales they have going. When we bought all new appliances, we got some great deals (like 40% off a Kenmore stove/washer and a Bosch dishwasher). The only caveat is that usually you won't get free shipping, so make sure you either pick it up yourself and have it all go on one truck.
Also, it helps to have everything pre-planned so you can place your order quickly as those days can be very busy. We actually set up an appointment with one of the sales guys who met with us previously so we could get in and out as quickly as possible.
