I have a oil fired steam boiler new installed 2/2010 with an AFG beckett burner. The boiler was turn on early october with no problems due to my service contract I had to get the annual tune up it was done 11/12/10.
approx. 1 week after I heard the boiler "chocking/stalling briefly then it when away. Until two weeks ago this time it choke then turn off for about 46 seconds then it turn on and continue it's cycle.
I call the service people they checked the filter it was cleand,the oil line was clear they turn it on for about 30 minutes nothing happen.
Now it happen again turn off for about 46 seconds after it was on for 22 minutes continues it's cycle or until desired temp. is reached then turns off. It's sounds like is struggling don't know what to do I'm going to call the service people again. any ideas?

All I can say is that I've had an intermittent problem that went on for months before it finally did it while my service person was here. If it happens consistently after a certain situation, create it before the service person comes to look at it. For instance, if it has problems after a cold start, keep the furnace off from the night before until they come to check it.

Default Modern burners have FOUR necessities...

Everybody understands it needs fuel, and a spark or pilot light, and combustion air, but often they forget about CONTROLLED EXHAUST. I am willing to beat that you were perceiving the "choking" as the burner adapting to a wind or other situation that forced air DOWN the chimney...

Baffles can help , but you need to be sure that is the real problem.
