Looking to install some left over laminate flooring over vinyl.
Not much, about 100sqft in our laundry room.
Room is located on the main floor of the house.

My question is, will I need moisture barrier or can I do with out since this going on the main floor over vinyl?

thanks

No need for the plastic vapor barrier, as you mentioned. You'll still want some foam underlayment, as it's rare for a floor to be 100% flat.

I'd still scrub the vinyl clean, though - do you really want to know all that gunk that's on it is under your shiny new floor?

^ What Narfcake said.

Actually, typical laminate pad doubles as a moisture & vapor barrier. So either way, you're good to go.

Besides, it's about 100 sq ft, and a laundry room. Your biggest enemies of a laminate floor are going to be coming from the top side of it.

Good luck!

Are you sure you want to put laminate flooring in a laundry room? Everyone I know who's put it even in their kitchen is sorry. One broken water hose or overflow of the washing machine and you'll probably have to replace the flooring.

I guess if you already have the material and can do the work yourself, maybe that doesn't matter to you. Any house I've lived in for at least five years has had one or more ice-maker, dishwasher, water sprayer, or other plumbing accidents.

Omaha-

The laminate I have already has the pad attached/glued to the back.
Am I good to go like this or should I still go out and buy underlayment.

Jukes -

I thought about that as well but it's a small room. I hoping nothing bad happens. I"ll be doing the work on my own too.

Thanks all.

With the foam attached already, you're good to go, then.

When installing laminate flooring in the laundry room, you should make sure that you have rubber pads underneath the washer and dryer. This is to make sure that theses appliances are level so that they won’t damage your flooring. Although most people do not have laminate flooring in the laundry room, there is no reason why you can’t use this room of the house to learn how to install laminate flooring. If you will install this in your kitchen, you should have the cabinets in place beforehand.
