I think the Element is a neat car. Yeah, it's ugly, but it's spacious enough inside that I would gladly overlook the exterior styling, which btw, actually looks cool in SC trim.
A family that we used to rent an apartment to years ago had an Element and I thought it was visually the ugliest thing. I asked the female driver why she got the car and it mentioned it was actually great with the kids. Easily cleanable surfaces and overall great design. I still don't like the car for myself but I see its value for some people.
It was a good idea, but the styling wasn't exactly a high point in Honda's RECENT history.
Hondas have been well designed cars for many years. The past few years, I'd say they made some not so nice cars (weird and funky headlight and tail light designs for the US market). Hope they can remedy the situation in the near future. Toyota although bland to some, still manages to make good looking cars.
I don't mind the Element. It's nicer than the Aztec, Cavalier, Sunfire (more like Sinfire), Saturns, Olsmobile Achieva, Buick Electras etc... ever were.... (need I say more?)
Not the nicest, but still a decent and functional car. Will I miss it? No...But it was not the worse thing on the road. There are greater atrocities on American roads, designed here.
I rode in one once. The back seat was the most uncomfortable that I have ever been in. Minimal headroom...
I doubt anyone will miss this automotive mistake...
I wouldn't be surprised to see Honda come back with something very similar but much smaller in the near future. Of all the box vehicles (xB, Element, Soul, Cube, etc), the Honda was a mammoth beast. Yes, for some that's a good thing, but for the most part it was too big, too slow, and too expensive compared to its closest competition. But given the relative success of the boxy cars, I can't see them bowing out of it altogether.
FWIW, I really liked the latest SC model from an aesthetics standpoint. But then again I drive an xB and like its looks as well, so what do I know?
I won't miss the Element. Always wondered, who buys such a thing. The newer generations have improved, however.
The Element is mentioned to be a "Compact Crossover SUV", wtf? I am not sure if there is a need for this class.
