I want to replace carpet on the 2nd floor with laminate. Now I have a question on the vertical stand part (two pictures below)? Option 1 is to use T-molding in other places and quarter round for the vertical stand part. Option 2 is to use end cap everywhere. Can somebody give suggestion on which option is better?

Neither, if you have a professional floor guy install the new floor, they will cut the new floor installation to the existing trim areas and make everything fit tight.

The best option i feel would be to find the flooring height as close to flush with the railing as you can. A drop or standing taller would make it look odd and the use of trim may not look right as well.

If your laminate flooring will end up higher than the railing base plate, I'd use an "L" molding instead of the other trims you mentioned. It's what we use when laminates are higher than a slding glass door track, for instance.
