We're in the process of remodeling our kitchen/hallway/breakfast nook and powder room. We're going to install 3/4" standard red-oak flooring throughout the entire area, including kitchen, but we're not decided on a small powder room off the hallway. It's literally 2 steps from the breakfast area and kitchen.

We're going to install a 24" vanity, complementing the new kitchen cabinets (Kraftmaid) and a standard white toilet. I'm leaning on running the oak flooring into the powder room, keeping the whole thing simple and clean. However we have the option to also use some vinyl tile that is sort of a gray/blue slate pattern (which are is leftovers from my last house).

We don't want ceramic at all, so it's either wood or that vinyl. Would all hardwood be too much?

Here's some pics- you can see the little room is right near the kitchen off the hallway.

For that small of a space and a bathroom that probably isn't going to see insanely heavy use, I'd just run the wood flooring in there in the name of decor consistency, since you don't have the same water damage concern you do with a more heavily used bathroom.

Because the room is so small why not find a beautiful tile that you really like? It should not cost much at all because the space is so small. I like the wood idea, but if your toilet floods when the wood would be damaged.

I'd run the hardwood into the powder room. It will have a more uniform look vs having vinyl tile plus it will look richer.

Well, if it were my powder room, I'd carpet it, along with everything else except the kitchen, but that's because I hate bare floors.

In your case, I'd say just put down some nice vinyl. They have great looking stuff these days. Maybe something artsy like black and white squares or a cool avantarde mosaic of broken tile or ceramic pieces.

The wood will be a better option than the vinly tile. Just hope you don't run into any plumbing problem from water leaking that will ruin the wood over time if not seen or notice in time to correct. There are some nice vinly faux ceramic tiles available that can be grouted to make it look more like ceramic tiles.

I'd vote for wood. It's best for resale to keep the flooring the same. Wood flooring in a powder room is fine - water is not a big issue since there's no shower or bathtub.
Best wishes with your project.

Heres the tile loosely laid out-

I have been leaning toward the wood myself.
