Originally, we planned to have both sides of the bar open. The countertop company said they couldn't make the correct size unless it had the backsplash attached. Therefore, we had to build the wall up to accommodate the backsplash. It turned into a counter, not a bar top. Now the counter company said they can make it either way.
The contractor built the back of the wall up for the backsplash. I think it looks too high now. Should we take the extra 6 inches off and make the bar top so the counter is open on both sides or leave the existing wall that has the additional height for the backsplash? The added back is above the 2 x 4. Here's a pic:
