Hi Again,

I need your opinion about whether I should tile the fireplace with marble or travertine. You think it would be too bulky with tile?

Thanks,

I don't think it looks bad the way it is, but if you did travertine or marble, what color are you thinking? I would lean toward travertine with more of a matte finish, since you have the shiny thing going on on the floor. You need some contrast at least for the focal point of your fireplace.

I personally like the contrast of materials. I would not put tile on the fireplace.

Keep it the way it is. It looks good.

If you insist on tiling it, tile it with a none shiney stone. And don't do white or off-white.

It's a vocal point---it is supposed to stand out and look different, not blend in and disappear.
