I don't know how far along you are in your project but I like the tiles layed on a 45 (diagonal)as well, however, you will use more tiles this way and there will be more waste with a diagonal. Good luck with everything. Please post pics once your project is complete!
I just finished grouting the tiles. I think I made a mistake with the grout color. The grout is a 'bone' color suggested by the tile store. It looks near white and the floor now is totally white and it doesn't look as good when it wasn't grouted when you can see dark lines. I am hoping as the grout cures it will get a little bit darker. I will post some pics after I seal the grout and install the baseboards.
Thanks,
We used bone colored grout too, and it appeared white.. but it gets darker after you seal it.
I finally finished installing baseboards and sealing the grout lines. Thanks everyone for your advice and help. I am tired but feel very good about finishing this job and it turned out much better than I had hope for. Here are some before and after pics. Before pics are from the real estate listing 5 months ago.
Thanks again!

The Camera's Flash came on when taking this pic so the color looks different. The other pics were with natural light.
