Hi all! This room used to be our dining room. We moved rooms around and now we have this sitting room and do not know what to do with it. We don't really want to put another eating area in there as the kitchen has a breakfast bar and then the dining room is off of the sitting room. All and any of the furniture in the room can be removed and or replaced. Thoughts on what to do with this room? I've attached pictures. Thanks!

You can remove the chairs by the breakfast bar and put an eat in table in that area.
Or put a built in desk under the window for an office area in the kitchen. A place to pull up recipes on a laptop or place to put mail and cookbooks.
Or instead of a built in desk, a bigger table that will fit in that area under the window.

First, are you willing to paint? That color is much too dark. At the very least, put in some recessed lighting.

I definitely think it would work as a sitting area. I think that two club chairs and a round accent table would look great. I'll look for some options and post links.

Thanks! I'm not willing to paint though, sorry. I love that color. It really isn't too dark. During the day it looks much lighter but the pictures were taken at night. Are you thinking a round accent table in between the two accent tables? I have those two end tables but if they don't work out it's no biggie because they were free!

I think the issue you are having is that the space is designed to be an eating space, not that it has to be but that is the purpose of that space. If you really want it for a "sitting" room, I would get 2 recliners or overstuffed chairs and a small ottoman. Put a small table between the chairs.

I like the idea of a desk too. Put the desk in so if you are sitting at the desk you face the kitchen though.

Exactly what I was thinking. A sitting room, with a nice love seat type sofa, coffee table or a couple not too big comfy chairs. Beautiful house.

Hi Alexandra,

I don't know if you are already have resolved your 'problem room'?...

If you want to spend little I would suggest to you to use 2 comfortable caramel color leather chairs with one sharing ottoman for both under the window; between the chairs I would put a small table with a lamp on top of it. And two tall indoor stres plants (in white vases) for each corner to create balance. I love the chocolate color in your walls... It's dramatic and sophisticated. I would add accents colors as orange and/or yellow (like pillows). Keep the rug on the floor to define the space and make it warm.

If you are willing to spend more money and make the space more like a fixed space you could hire a contractor/cabinetry maker to build a banquet. I reccomend that you look at this link to get inspirations: RG Art + Design Inspirations: COZY PLACES TO EAT (http://rgartdesign.blogspot.com/2010/07/cozy-places-to-eat.html - broken link)

Good luck with your project!

Renata

Affirmed09- Thank you so much for those photos! You have no idea how much that has helped! I can not wait to show them to my husband!
nabaresky- Thank you for your thoughts! It's much appreciated! The color of the walls is actually a blueish grey, but the idea of the leather chairs is fantastic! That has been a consideration of ours. We are just having trouble finding chairs that aren't too expensive.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! YOUR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED! Once I have it figured out, I'll post pictures!
