Caps and Pens...yawn.
Personally I was hoping for St. Louis and Minnesota to be played at Busch. Or maybe Columbus would host it at the horse shoe.
But Betman feels it's better to stuff Crosby and Ovechkin down our throat even more.

As I said earlier, the weather could be an issue.

Pittsburgh temps on New Years Day:

2010: 34 degrees, .4 inches of snow, .02 inches of rain
2009: 29 degrees
2008: 40 degrees, .4 inches of snow, .04 inches of rain
2007: 56 degrees
2006: 40 degrees
2005: 53 degrees
2004: 47 degrees, .01 inches of rain
2003: 42 degrees, 1.22 inches of rain
2002: 23 degrees
2001: 25 degrees

Agreed. Why not Monreal or Toronto? Right now Min and STL are not that good. NHL NEEDS to sell an up and down game if they want a half decent TV contract.

I'd bet anything that NBC had more sayso in this decision than did the NHL. They can pretty much dictate whatever they want to Bettman.

There's a special ingredient in the ice that elevates its freezing/melting point. I don't think we have to worry about the ice unless Pittsburgh has a freak 60-degree day.

Another epic Bettman/Crosby frenchfest. Totally unfair to the other teams in the NHL, as Pittsburgh already played in the game only a couple years ago. I knew this was going to happen......Bettman is such a media hype loving *****. They should have put it at the new U of Minnesota stadium. The Wild have one of the best fan bases in the league, and you know it's gonna be cold enough in Minny to support the ice.......but no, another east coast Bettman turd dropping so that Crosby and Ovechkin can be marketed to the non hockey demographic yet again. Bettman is the devil.

Northman,

All my fellow Pittsburgher Pens fans aren't exactly ecstatic with it either although I do hear some fans that think it's cool.

My own acquaintances agree with you that other cities/teams should get a shot at it. They'd also rather see a Frozen Four tournament or NHL All Star Game held in our brand new arena than go to see a game held in a place built for football.

I was at the one in Buffalo and thought it kind of sucked. Without binoculars, it's just too far removed from the ice. And, that's not mentioning the fact that you can't hear the normal sounds of pucks off the boards, hits, and all the things you take for granted inside an arena.

I think Bettman is trying to draw the American audience.......Canadians will watch no matter who plays ?

I wondered about that...It looks cool on TV but if you were there the sight lines looked awful. This is all about TV exposure. I'd put up boards on a lake in Minneapolis.
