The reality is that there are eight teams in the Pacific and Mountain time zones. So, two Central time zone teams are going to be grouped with those teams as long as there are six 5-team divisions.
And the current scheduling format is that teams play each division rival 6x and each conference non-division rival 4x.
So, with the Stars in the Pacific Division they have to play 3 road games each @ Anaheim, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Jose. If these teams were in a different division, the Stars would still be playing at each of them twice/season (I'm going by the 82-game scheduling format -- not sure how that translate to this season, but it's probably fairly close -- at any rate, it'll revert again next year).
"so many late away games"? The difference between realigning the Stars is only four games out of eighty-two -- less than one game in twenty.
Big deal... (and here's a hint -- some other team would then be in the same position -- it's not like there's some corresponding Mountain or Pacific time zone team currently aligned with a bunch of Central time zone teams)

If you think the Dallas Stars are complaining (which I'm sure they are, and they have a legitimate reason to do so), how do you think the Winnipeg Jets feel?

The situation with the Jets is clearly ridiculous, but I think that on some level they agreed to it when they acquired the team from Atlanta...they knew what the situation would be until it got sorted out. They are just so happy to have a team that they can deal for a bit.
Hopefully all of the big issues can get sorted out when they realign.
