No general issues with the geographic element. Would rather have it be 2 conferences of 2 divisions and have playoffs be top 8 teams in each conference. Like the current playoff format better than when it was strictly within the division for first 2 rounds.
Would also like Toronto in division with Chicago and Detroit to have more original 6 rivalries.
I don't think the owners would support this. Why would St. Louis give up games versus Chicago and Detroit. It locks up too many money teams in one division. The South division would be a financial disaster.

Most analysts will tell you that Florida teams apparent attendance disadvantage will be mitigated by snow birds attendance.
I'm not sure if Dallas and Carolina are in nearly the same fix as the Florida teams are in terms of fanbase, but it would definetly put a certain ceiling on interest in the league unless one of them became an powerhouse.

Dallas has serious attendance woes. They're attracting slightly more people per game than Phoenix, and are dead last in terms of percentage of tickets sold. Carolina seems to be attracting reasonable amounts of people.
Maybe it's the snowbirds attending Florida and TB games - somebody's going - they're not in bad shape, really.
Dallas team has a rough go, Dallas loves sports but only football as a religion. Everything else, you have to put out.
Very normal frankly.
More to the point, I don't watch hockey very often but might start to do so more with the realignment. Caps fans are jacked to be playing old Patrick division foes again. (In DC we look north not south)

The Stars used to be towards the top in attendance. Back in the day, the Reunion Center and AAA used to pack the place. Stars fans were everywhere.
