This is terrible. Ruslan Salei briefly played for the Panthers. He never scored more than 6 goals in a season, but he came through when it mattered. RIP to all.

I'm saddened to hear about this. R.I.P to all, especially Josef Vasicek aka Big Joe. 2006 Stanley Cup winner.

Demitra... Salei... Skrastins... Vasicek... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all these names among victims.

R.I.P. to all the players.

As if it could not get worse for hockey fans! I for one now have all four of my favorite teams (Wild, Canucks, Jets and Blackhawks) with someone who is/was in their team die over the summer! RIP Yaroslavl Lokomotiv!

the former asst. coach for Detroit Red Wings died

Stephan Liv the swedish goalie was I believe an org. draft choice of detroit

Ruslan Salei most recently played for Detroit.

and Pavol Demitra had an amazing career in the NHL and was captain of the Slovakian National team.

how very sad for all of them.

Not to mention he was one of the best players in Sweden. He played in my local team (twice helped winning the gold in the national league for us) and was my next-door neighbour when I grew up ...

Horrible tragedy

Video: Dynamo Minsk’s hockey funeral for Lokomotiv crash victims.

Members of the Kontinental Hockey League's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl were flying to Minsk for their season opener when their plane crashed soon after takeoff on Wednesday. Forty-three passengers died, including nearly all of Lokomotiv's players and coaching staff, in one of the greatest tragedies to ever hit the hockey community.
