I am all for getting rid of players when there value is high, such as right after an over-acheiving post season. I wish more GMs had the stones to do it.

I don't know if this one falls into that category though, I'd be weirded out if I were a Habs fan.

I'm thinking the Montreal front office likes being a mediocre team as they seem to trade any one who appears to be good.

wow. Watch next season Halak will be in the playoffs while Montreal will be looking into the box. Always happens.

I think Halak was rightfully expecting a big raise, so the Habs got some young prospects for him. I'd be a bit stunned if I followed the Habs closer.

Stupid....look how far they got in the playoffs with Halak the last 2 years....
conversely, with Price, almost lost 1st round in 08, miserable 1st round in 09, got down in the 1st round 3 to 1, before they turned it to Halak.....
Gauthier should be working for the Leafs or the Bruins officially, since, with this trade, he's making them better......

What really bothers most Habs fans was that after 17 years of mediocrity the brilliant play of Halak gave us hope for the future of the team and a viable shot at the cup in the foreseeable future. now we are back to the same old middle of the pack team that has no chance at all.
On the other hand Halak will go to a team that appreciates his talent and he will be their number 1 goalie, good for him he deserved better and got it.
The Blues must be thinking they've died and gone to hockey heaven by getting a blue chip goalie for basically nothing.
