I went to youtube today, and I found an old video of Nickellennium(I was 13 when 1999 ended). This song pretty much highlights how I felt when 2000 came. I got kind of nostalgic.

Keep Going 2000 - Nickellennium - YouTube

When 2000 came, for me it was like a whole new frontier. I had this "bring on the future, I'm ready, times are getting better" attitude. After the scare of 1999, with Y2K, Columbine, and other scary things, it seemed like we were headed for a bright future.

Now, in 2012, I feel all of this paranoia around me. It seems like what might have been a bright future was turning into a mess. The idealism and optimism that was in 2000 is being replaced by alot of fear, and alot of negativity around. And it seems like it all started after 9/11.

How did you feel when 2000 came, your expectations, and how things are now?

One thing I think about when it comes to 2000 is how much optimism there was when it came, versus how much cynicism and fear I often sense in today's society.

He predicted that we would have a great boom. The prediction was off. In a way, I feel like my own prediction was off too.

In some cases, I think of this commercial when I think about the early 2000s.

We did, it just came crashing down in 2008. Standard of living for most Americans during the '00s decade was the best in our nation's history. That boom was just overshadowed by a host of other problems such as 9/11, terrorism, war in Iraq, etc.

I would say around 2007 this happened. But just the same, I think I may have not noticed the boom because I kept hearing about war.

Exactly. Real estate was gangbusters. It was a great time to sell. Until the crash.

One thing I wanted to talk about was the sense of fear and paranoia that exists now, as oppose to the early 2000s. I didn't feel any of that around me in 2000. I was thinking "a brand new time, and a bright future". And then 9/11 happened and things got kind of scary from there, but I never really felt the paranoia until around 2005.

Things started getting bad around 2007 and continued from there.
