Hi everyone. My mom (59 yrs. old) has been dealing with thyroid, gout in her fingers, hands and feet and sarcoidosis for years now, and at the doctor today, her blood levels showed she had high potassium and calcium levels.

As per her doctor's recommendation several months ago, she stopped eating dairy and anything else that would have high levels of calcium or potassium, but still continue to show high in her blood.

My mom doesn't have insurance or enough money to go to another doctor for a 2nd opinion, so I'm hoping someone here has gone through a similar situation and has cured or reduced their levels.

Thank you for your help.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, what was her thyroid diagnosis?
Is she on any medication for it?

When i had my thyroid removed last year I was given calcium supplements immediately afterward and they checked my calcium levels for the entire day after my surgery.

It's a Parathyroid disease issue with the calcium levels I think.

(But I'm merely a patient, not a doctor)

Has she been diagnosed with Diabetes too? The high potassium and calcium levels and renal disease are linked as well.

If her current doctor hasn't checked her for any of this and has only recommended dietary restrictions on dairy , it's time for a new doctor altogether I think.

Best of luck to you and your mother.

high calcium levels are not at all unusual with sarcoidosis, and tend to occur more in the summer months due to greater exposure to sunlight...although as mentioned above, the sarcoidosis can also lead to abnormal production of parathyroid hormone, which can also raise levels.

the other issue is that sarcoidosis fairly frequently effects the kidneys, which could be the cause of her electrolyte imbalance.

im sorry to have to say this, but sarcoidosis is an incredibly complex disease, and needs to be managed by an expert. i would strongly recommend against taking advice on home remedies to correct your mother's calcium and potassium levels, as not only can these be an indication sarcoid involvement of particular organs which need treatment, but the imbalances in electrolytes themselves can be potentially very serious.
