I'm a 19 year old male and I've been shaving since I was roughly 17. I wet my face with warm water, put on Barbasol shaving cream, and do short, continuous, gentle strokes down my face, but my face still gets irritated! Anyone have any tips on shaving so that my face will not get irritated and these red marks will go away?

Shave after showering, use Edge gel, use a 2 bladed razor, change the blades often, rinse in hot water before shaving.
Get a Norleco 3 headed electric. They're pricey ($100 or thereabouts) but you'll find your razor bumps will diminish. Different kind of shave, takes a couple weeks for your beard to adjust.
Stand in the wind for several hours a day. Eventually your face will take on a leathery tone and the razor won't bother you.

Of course I do not shave my face because I am a woman.

As the above poster mentioned, the things you use make all the difference in the world.

If I use a cheap razor.... I get cut. If I use a dull blade... cut

This is funny, I have been using my So's Barbasol and it is just not as good as the gel I had been using which is made for sensitive skin.

I find the razors with about 4 blades do a better job.

Default Shaving Tips ?

When I was the caregiver to my husband for 3 years, I had to learn how to shave his face, because he could not shave anymore. So I get a washcloth and run it under warm water and apply it to his face. Then I would get this natural shaving cream, it did not contain the harsh chemicals as the commerical types. Lather his face, let it sit about 5 minutes and Shave his face, very easy to do and his face got really clean shaving.

I used Edge shaving cream this morning. I shaved after showering and even wet my face with warm water again, applied a rich lather of Edge shaving cream, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then shaved and the same thing happens. I still have these annoying red spots

What type of shaver are you using?

I do everything you do except for when I am done shaving I splash cold water on my face to help close up the pores.

Give that a try.

Are you nipping off pimples? Didn't ask that to be snarkey. You might want to not use a whole lot of shaving cream, a little bit of Edge goes a long way. Try using shorter strokes (writing that made me feel dirty) instead of long ones along the whole side of your face.
For what it's worth I haven't used a blade in 15 or 20 years (only if I haven't shaved for 3 or 4 days which only happens a couple times a year) and have used aforesaid Norelco exclusively.

NoTry not just wetting your face with warm water but wrapping a warm towel or holding a warm towel to your face for a few minutes. You really need to open up those pores. I bought a mirror so I can shave in the shower. I hold a hot/warm wash cloth over my face for 3-5 minutes and lather up and shave in the shower with a 3 blade razor. It really helps a ton to do it in the shower and really open your pores.
