I know of someone that cann't smell or taste anything which I think would be real bad. They don't know what they are missing in life.

Loss of the sense of smell is one of the least understood medical conditions.

Not only can it deny people one of life’s greatest pleasures, it can also be dangerous — even life-threatening.

Have you ever seen a movie called Perfect Sense?

To be more serious, I lost most of my sense of smell in the years following the 9/11 WTC attacks. I didn't notice it going, and it is a scary idea not to be able to smell gas or smoke. I can't tell if my apartment smells like cat box or garbage can or if something goes off in the refrigerator. Fortunately I'm married, so have someone I can ask. I had a friend who lost hers through recurring nasal polyps and scar tissue and she lived alone so would never light a candle, etc.
