WASHINGTON - Devil's Revenge. Spontaneous Combustion. Hot sauces have names like that for a reason. Now scientists are testing if the stuff that makes the sauces so savage can tame the pain of surgery.
Doctors are dripping the chemical that gives chili peppers their fire directly into open wounds during knee replacement and a few other highly painful operations.
I have used Tabasco sauce for years. A chiropractor told me to put 20 drops on a t. and swallow it when you have a sore throat. I was using it when I had Strept throat and didn't know that my throat was so, but I was so sick that I finally went to a doctor, and he said, "This must be the worse sore thoat that you have ever had?" I said, "No, I didn't know I still had a sore throat." That is when I learned that I had Strept throat.
I have used it also whenever I get a cough that isn't related to a sore throat, because in the past when I start coughing I often continue coughing, and it stops the coughing.
I told a friend about it when her husband had shingles, and he used it and is now telling everyone else about it.
I have used it for other open wounds too. It burns a little at first but then the pain goes away in several minutes, and then the other pain is gone. For sore throats you have to use it a few times throughout the day before the pain is gone, and then you can often just use it maybe 3 times a day.
Is it capsacin? If so it's used in many things now, including an artritis cream called Zostrin or Zoxtrin. I love hot foods, but that cream burned my skin and I felt it for two days.

I agree about the red pepper (cayenne) for sore throats! When I was in college, an old army nurse gave me some in a little water. Burned like fire, but sore throat gone!!
Groove, since the cream caused burning, i assure you that Tabasco sauce only causes it for several minutes. I didn't find that the cream on my body worked as well as Tabasco sauce, and of course you can't use the cream internally.
