With herniation in the lower (lumbar) back, sciatica may develop. Sciatica is pain that travels through the buttock and down a leg to the ankle or foot because of pressure on the sciatic nerve. Low back pain may accompany the leg pain.

My husband gets this all of the time, He has sciatica and 2 herniated discs in his back. Have you spoken to a doctor about this? He has been seeing a chiropractor a few years now so the mumbness in the thigh isn't as frequent. He's 40 BTW.

If you have a herniated disc putting pressure on the nerves in the upper lumbar region, it isnt' the sciatic nerve being irritated and therefore NOT sciatica.

Sciatica and herniated discs aren't the same thing

currently taking Neurontin for sciatica, seems to be helping....just wanted to offer a suggestion for some relief...
