After a week of having a dull pain mostly concentrated on the left side of my abdomen, excessive gas, and odd colored stool (I'll spare the details), I went to the doctor yesterday. A blood test confirmed that there is some minor bleeding, but I won't really find out what's going on until I go to the doctor again this week and also see a GI. At times there are some sharp pains, but they usually subside after thirty seconds or so. It comes and goes. Hopefully this isn't anything more serious than an ulcer, but are my symptoms common? Also, how common is it for a 20 year old to get an ulcer?
In the mean time, I'm taking nexium and not eating acidic foods and beverages.
It could be a few different things. It's good you are seeing a GI doctor. He may want to do a colonoscopy or other tests to find the cause of bleeding. Don't put it off.
Much has been going through my head over the past few days and I am quite concerned. My problems could be any number of things, including ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. I guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions until I get some tests done, but I am nervous.
I sometimes have pain on my left side under the ribs. I have a hernia and it pushes thru if I bend too sharply.
Keep in mind that the Standard form of Ulcers are caused by a Bacteria.
You say "stomach ulcer".
Your Stomach is not in your abdomen. It is in front just above the waist line.
Yeah, but I have been having pains in my abdomen. The GI said it's unlikely to be a stomach ulcer.
I'm getting a colonoscopy tomorrow.
