Feeling like an idiot. My girlfriend and I have recently moved to the River Walk neighborhood in Chesapeake and are having the damndest time getting our recycling taken away. Does anyone know the schedule? Also, we have a ton of cardboard boxes from moving and, after going to the web site, I saw that they didn't list cardboard in the list of items they take away, but it wasn't in the list of items they won't take. Any suggestions? Thanks all!

okay, for the cardboard boxes you'll need to do a bulk trash pick up:

City of Chesapeake, Virginia (http://cityofchesapeake.net/web_intake/Controller?op=locform&invSRType=PWWMBWPU&invSRDesc =Bulk%20Trash/Waste%20Pickup&locreq=Y&stnumreqd=Y - broken link)

if that link doesn't work for you, call the city of chesapeake to schedule the bulk pick up over the phone. they'll take just about anything except hazardous materials and tree stumps. you can schedule it up to midnight the day prior to your trash pickup. so if they usually pick up trash on a friday, you have up to thursday at 11:59pm to go on the website and schedule the pickup. the bulk pick up is hauled away on the day of your normal trash pickup.

as for the recycling schedule, you can probably find it here:

City of Chesapeake, Virginia - Public Works Department (http://www.cityofchesapeake.net/services/depart/pub-wrks/wastemanagement-recycling.shtml - broken link)

i live in oakbrooke meadows and our schedule is every other friday for recycling. if you can't remember the schedule, just look out the window on trash day and see if your neighbors have their blue recycling bins out... that's what i do!

also, if you're throwing away yard waste (leafs, grass, etc) you HAVE to put it in a clear trash bag and schedule a bulk up. you can read the "rules" on the chesapeake city website as well.

lastly, this week's trash schedule is screwed up thanks to the snow. my trash man didn't show up today, which means they'll pick it up tomorrow (saturday).

hope that helped!

For bagged yard waste you don't have to schedule a pick up. Simply place at the curb on your designated collection day and it'll get picked up. You do need to schedule a bulk pickup if you have branches or other yard waste and any household items not in your collection bag. Keep in mind that yard waste and household bulk pickups are two separate pickups, so if you have both you'll have to request two different pickups.

Wow just saw how old the original posting was. Hopefully that's helpful to somebody though.

As far as Thursday pickup - I believe it's Great Bridge. I'm sure it's available on the city website though.
