You will have many options. Chesapeke is still a fast growing city so remember what is country today will not be tomorrow. It really depends on how close you want to be to certain things. There are many established neighborhoods within the city at that price range and if new contruction is what you are after you will find several builders (neighborhoods) thoughout the city building in that price range...most people seem to building south of Great Bridge closer to the NC line because at this time it still has that country feel to it.

Hickory, Great Bridge or Grassfield High School districts are considered the better schools. I know you said elementary but if you are here for a while you want to check high schools as well. There are so many choices in neighborhoods. There are currently 136 homes for sale in your price range in Chesapeake in those high school districts.
What are you looking for in a neighborhood/ home ? Newer ? New ? Older ? Large Lot ?
1/4 acre ? 1/2 acre ? 1 acre ? 3 acres ? Some neighborhoods to consider would be and not in any particular order: Mariners Point, Ravenna, Emerald Lakes, Etheridge Lakes, Falls Creek, Chesapeake Colony, Forest Lakes, Vintage Estates, Las Gaviotas to name a few.

Thanks, I was looking at Hickory and GreatBridge, but didn't realize Great Bridge was that close to the NC line. I would rather be in a more surburan area rather than one that has a country feel. A lot of the new developments look like many of the houses are empty. What is a nice neighborhhod close to VA beach that has good schools, plenty of shopping and family oriented? I would be working in VA beach and would be ok with up to a 30 minute commute.

Thank you. I didn't realize the elementary schools are in a different district than the high schools. Where I live, the elementary school are in the same district as the high school.

I may have confused you with my answer re: high schools. You are correct in your assumption. Suggestions for neighborhoods also depend on where in Va Beach you will be commuting to. As well as answering the other questions asked. i.e new, older, large lot, small lot, etc.
There is another poster on this forum ShellyTC. She works in that area a lot more than I do. I will defer to her knowledge for the best suggestions. I'm sure she will post an answer by tonight.

Thanks Mr. Williamsburg : ) In Va. Beach, I am partial to the 23456 zip code. It is mostly Kellam High school, and PA middle school with several elementary schools that rate 8, 9, and 10 on GreatSchools.net For that price range, there are a couple of new construction subdivisions, Mayberry comes to mind. I like Highgate Greens and also Lago Mar and Christopher Farms. This area is close to shopping, close to the beach and very easy access to the rest of the city and Chesapeake and Norfolk.

Please feel free to DM if you have any additional questions I can answer.

Shelly

Now for Chesapeake, there is Ravina in the Hickory district and anything with Etheridge in the name, etheridge lakes, etc. they are in Hickory area. Great Bridge isn't too far south.

I have a question though, if you are working in Va. Beach, why do you want to live in Chesapeake? Va. Beach has great schools, rec centers, and lower taxes : ) I was just wondering if someone suggested it and a particular area.

Shelly

Hickory definitely. Greenbriar isn't bad either. The further south you go the longer drive you have to Virginia Beach and traffic can be a pain. You should have no problem with finding a nice house with $500-600. Kempsville school district in Virginia Beach would be a really good option. People are fighting to get into there like they are Hickory.
