I used Loreal Ferria for years, but I noticed it wasn't lasting as long, now I'm using Clairol Nice and Easy and I love it, the gray stays away longer. The only bad thing is it takes 25 minutes.
I get mine done professionally. I did it myself for years, and the color just wouldn't stay on. My roots started showing after two weeks. My hairdresser is a color specialist, I go in every eight weeks, and my roots start showing after seven. It's my only splurge, and it's worth it to me to have my hair look good.
I haven't done my own color for a few years, but I had decent experiences with Feria, Garnier Nutrisse, and Natural Match. I used Feria to add red tones to my natural ash blonde, Garnier to pump up the blonde, and Natural Match when I went brunette. I don't color my hair at all anymore, apart from highlights once every year or so, and I don't do those myself.
I like the colorsilk.

I use Clairol professional color! Recently I found out I can use the low-lift developer since I use a dark color, but even using the maximum lift the product still worked really well. My hair tends to get reddish-brown in the sun. To me this does not look good if your skin is already brown, so I dye it blue black and Clairol is the best. I also tried Topchic, which works pretty well, but seems to be harder to find, more expensive and works just as well as Clairol. I just wanted to remind home-dyers to do the allergy test each time before you color. Hairstylists and even I forget to do this myself and assume I won't have a bad reaction, but I think we should all make an effort to do this just in case.
