Mauldin Square is a retail center located at the southwest quadrant of West Butler Road and South Main Street in the City of Mauldin in Greenville County, South Carolina. It opened in 1971 with supermarket Winn-Dixie #1020, 111 West Butler Road, Mauldin, South Carolina 29662-2534, and discount department store Kmart #7274, 129 West Butler Road, Mauldin, South Carolina 29662-2534, as its anchors.
Winn-Dixie #1020 closed in 1993. A replacement store, Winn-Dixie #1051, a Winn-Dixie Marketplace, was built in its location, and opened around 1993 or 1994. Winn-Dixie #1051 was among 114 stores that closed in 2000. Winn-Dixie #1051 would be demolished to make way for another supermarket, Publix #1012. Publix #1012 opened in 2004.
Kmart #7274 is among six Kmart stores remaining in South Carolina as of Thursday, 23 November 2017; of that, two stores are in Greenville County. (The other is Kmart #4016, Kmart Plaza, 1 Kmart Plaza, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-4442.)

Kmart's parent company, Sears Holdings, has been closing Kmart, Sears, and Sears Auto Center locations constantly in recent years. Signs a store could be closing would be the condensing of sales floor space and inventory, frequent liquidation sales, closing service departments, and the reduction in hours of operation.
Kmart Pharmacy #7274's hours of operation appear to be reduced: closed Sunday, open 1000 hours to 1800 hours Monday through Friday, open 1000 hours to 1400 hours Saturday. The pharmacy's reduction of hours could be correlative with a decrease in business if the store's traffic and business have decreased.
Kmart #7274 does not have direct competition from Target and Walmart discount department stores and SuperTarget and Walmart Supercenter hypermarkets in its trade area.
Because there is no Walmart or Target nearby, this store may have no direct competition close by and may still be performing decently. But there is weak inventory compared to Walmart and Target, especially in electronics where those other competitors have the better selection of top tier TVs, computers, and tablets. This is a change from last year. You can go to Walmart and get a top line TV from Samsung or LG, but no longer at Sears or Kmart. They have cheaper generic brands, and the lesser versions of the better brands. And as I noted in the other thread, they did not even produce a national newspaper supplement for Black Friday ads, which is a notable absence on the major retail shopping day.
It will be interesting to see if this Kmart store continues to hang on next year, as it appears run down and in major need of renovation.

I have seen Kmart stores with no direct competition against Walmart and Target nearby close.
I doubt Sears Holdings is investing in store remodels at the present.
I wonder if Kmart #7274 has lost business to distant competitors including Walmart Supercenter hypermarkers and Target discount department stores in Greenville and Simpsonville.
Someone should just put Sears Holdings out of it's (and ours) misery.
I rarely (if ever) shop at K-mart but my wife had found a small dinette table she wanted for our basement kitchen, so nothing real fancy. They were of course out of stock at the store, so I ordered online and they would deliver to the store. It never came and they cancelled after about 8 days saying it was out of stock. The website still showed it in stock (today) at the store and online for delivery. So I don't know what the heck they are doing.
I found one at Walmart and it came in 3 days, delivered to my house for less money, similar style and quality.
Surprised it took this long. I hated going in that store, it was so disorganized inside. My wife liked to stop now and then. It was such a mess and you could never find help.
The remaining Sears/Kmart stores as a whole will be liquidated or sold after the holidays more than likely. They can't make their debt payments. Creditors now pushed for a total liquidation. Sounds like they were able to secure some money to run through the holidays and they probably bought a few more months to sell off the few remaining assets like Kenmore and their home services business. They have neglected their stores for years now.
Good riddance. Personally think a neighborhood Walmart would be good in that location. Hell, if they can make enough room, a full fledged Walmart Supercenter would be good. That area still needs something of the sort.
