This may sound like an odd question, but not knowing, I've gotta ask...

New to area, moving from SOFLA, we don't have any problems with storing cleaning products, paints, etc and having to worry about them freezing. Up here, it's a different story I would think.

I really don't want to have paint cans, yard sprays, etc inside yet I don't want to put them out in the shed to find them ruined after winter comes and goes if I can help it.

I don't have a garage, but do have a shed, crawlspace and a unheated storage room (patio was enclosed, but no heat/air) Where/How do you store your cans of paint, tubes of caulk, lawnmower oil, spray cans, weed spray, etc. etc??

Thanks in advance for replies.

I use my crawlspace to store most of my paint, etc. Never had a problem with freezing down there.

Here in the upstate, we do get a number of hard freezes. Probably enough to ruin any lawn chemicals left in an exposed shed. Having a garage is not necessarily the answer either. I do have a garage but it gets up to 90 degrees in the summer. Too hot. If your crawlspace is tolerable to you, that's probably the best place. Won't freeze and not too hot. You might run an experiment this winter. Keep a thermometer on your enclosed patio and see what the temp is on one of our very cold mornings. It's possible that the close proximity to your house will keep the temp above freezing, which is all you need for the lawn stuff. I keep our stuff in our outdoor shed during the summer and in the garage in the winter. But, trying to go mostly organic, I only have a few things.

Thanks for the input. I'll give the crawlspace a go and see how things progress during the winter.

My parents have a trailer up in Hendersonville that I left some stuff in during the winter, and they don't keep the electric or water on in the winter time - the caulk froze, haven't looked at the cans of paint, but had put them in a cabinet with a blanket on top and hoping when I need them they'll be okay.

Moving to a new climate and not knowing, I may ask some unusual questions, but at least I'm trying to learn the how-tos before learning the uh-oh's!

I'm a resident of north carolina. I thinking about starting a cleaning buisness. nothing big but mostly sanitaion home and disifection. My question is can I store my over the counter cleaning supplies in a shead in the back yard? This would be your basic cleaning agents such as Mr clean, 409 cleaner, bleach, amonia, and soforth nothing to harsh; or do i have to find a place in my home and pay for a license?
