Caterpillar Inc. is considering “establishing a significant component manufacturing facility” in Spartanburg County.
Spartanburg is one of three locations being considered by the construction and mining equipment giant, which has its headquarters in Peoria, Ill. The other two locations are Montgomery, Ala., and Winston-Salem, N.C.
I thought Caterpillar has/had a plant in Simpsonville (or maybe Fountain Inn?) that was either closed or drawn down recently. Couldn't that be used or upfitted?

There are several facilities in Fountain Inn that are fully in use.
They have CAT and CAT Logistics right off 385, with two more in Fountain Inn. There is another facility in Franklin, NC. There's one in Newberry, and another in Sumter. Those are the ones in the nearby areas that I'm familiar with. The company that I work for, also based in Peoria, has plant maintenance and IT contracts with them.

You don't happen to work for ATS, do you? Small world!
