Does anyone personally have any experience with air purifiers? Specifically a company called Blueair? Or any other suggestions? I know they supply hospitals with air purifying systems. I am trying to rid a house of cigarette smoke; even though it is a mild odor, I still want it as gone as possible.
Any ideas for ridding the place of the smoke smell?
The only way to get rid of the cigarette odor is to hire a company who provides the service for homes with smoke damage. No home air purifier will do that.
I bought a house in which the previous owners were smokers. I tried washing the walls but the smell came back. I tried painting one room but the smell persisted. I finally had to prime all the walls and ceiling with a product called Kilz and then paint it. Finally the odor was gone. I also removed all the carpeting.
Yep, removal of absorbing surfaces (carpet, window tx.) and good old fashioned scrubbing of all surfaces prior to re-painting is the only way to get all the noticeable odor out. You may still notice some in more humid weather depending on if it has saturated into floor joists, etc... .
I was amazed ho much nicotine yellow came off of stained woodwork on a home I recently purchased. You will be able to freshen up the house, it just takes elbow grease.
The carpet where I am seems to have absorbed lots of cig. smell, it persists no matter how well everything is cleaned. I was given one of those ionizing air purifiers, it does seem to work in my bedroom, but turn it off and the smell is back quick...
Luckily I'm not allergic to the smoke smell but it is sort of disgusting...
Smoke from cigarettes can be a problem, that is for sure. Also, you can have problems with smells if it was someone who did extensive grilling and cooking of that nature in the house. Smoke is smoke, its hard to get the smell and grease of it out if people over expose the home to it (especially from mismanaged fireplaces).
