I have come to the conclusion that there are two American dreams. I want to know if I am wrong here. And I would like to know what you think.

1. The original (real) one: This one is for foreigners only. The Dutch settled in modern day NY. And ever since people have flocked to the new world to succeed. They where not doing bad in their home countries. But they wanted to be somebody. They wanted to get rich. The guy that invented the Television was not able to sell his idea in England, so he went to America. Nicholai Thesla tried everything all over Europe. He went to America and created the Ac/Dc current. He lit the world.
A modern day version of the American dream is mr Arnold (nobody) Schwarzenegger. He was a failure in Austria. He dreamed of the American dream. To be someone. He went to America and achieved it.
The illegal aliens are not looking for the American dream. They are looking for work. The two main points of the American dream is.
a, Go to America.
b, Get wealthy, (not working at McDonald's), but being a Hollywood star, or maybe governor.

Like that song, Hollywood. Msfr ny a European who is a Hollywood star now. "Marina and the diamonds."
Quote:
American queen is the American dream
American queen is the American dream

She is a Polish girl in America
Tall, tanned hot blonde called Ania
I asked her ‘Why would you wanna be a hollywood wife?’
“Because I don’t want to end up living in a dive on Vine...a dive on Vine"

Air hostess is doing gossip magazines, crosswords and a flight to JFK.
39 years old with a mile high chin
trying to stimulate a mind that is slowing starting to decay
I itch my skin jump up and say
lady i know why your thoughts turned grey
Now an air hostess has already achieved the American dream. But in this song she failed. Contradiction will be explained below:

2. The new (american) one: This one is for people born in the US only. A nice home. 2.1 children. Two cars. This was adopted by modern day Americans.
They dream of the simple life experienced by modern day legal immigrants. People who go to America legaly are people who are doctors. People who come to America legally already have all that.
In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's the only European outcome in life that is secured. Education is free and available to all. And it's "socialist" so even people working at McDonald's here can have a nice home and two cars.

Conclusion: People born in America are not allowed to have the American dream. Cause they are already born here.

I think your wrong on both counts and need to rethink the "typical" American person and the family life that they live.

This was your first post/thread on CD. The other thread you started was an inquiry about a high end/high dollar apartment overlooking Central Park. Where do you live now and why are you speculating about "the American Dream" and what it means to native born Americans and foreign born immigrants? Do you live in the US now? Are you a foreign born immigrant? I'm not following you.

Why? I gave a lot of reflections. I didn't just say that, "Americans are wrong."

And most Americans live middle class?

The NY question was just me wondering.

This thread is about the American dream as a concept. Since it was used for foreigners going to America when it was a Dutch colony and later British, and at last an American nation. It was never for people born in America.

And the point was to prosper. Not being middle classed.

I was born in America, and I am living the American Dream. To me, the "dream" is being free to make my own choices, to worship as I please, to own my own home (small and humble as it is), to go where I want, to be friends with whom I choose, to realize that I will reap what I sow in this life. I'm far from what many people probably picture as a huge success, but as an American, I am free and happy and blessed far beyond anything I could ask for.

Sounds like any other western country... My country produced a guy that couldn't succeed with his idea here. So he went to America and was able. It is called Skype, he is now a billionaire. If he stayed here he would be like you.

At what income level do you think a person needs to live their American dream? Then ask yourself if McDonald’s, Walmart or any of these companies pay that amount needed. Depending on where in this country your are working, the wages will vary, however I think I heard that $27,000 yearly was considered the average working poor in this country. That isn’t living the American dream, and it will not give you a nice home in a nice neighborhood, with a good public school system, nor will you have one good running car much less two. The working poor in America is becoming more typical everyday. I could be wrong but I thought that middle class annual salaries without benefits of health, dental, retirement pension, 401, vacation, etc was somewhere around $50-60,000; it can vary depending on location.

Now that's a great thing when someone can achieve and succeed like that. However it's not the norm, there are not too many people coming to America or who live here that can become a billionaire.

Yes, they have failed the pursuit of happiness. They tried the American dream and failed.

Some are already rich. Miami is drawing a lot of rich foreigners. Especially French Jews.
