You're welcome.

Kelvin Grove Plantation (on St Simons Island) had a particularly colorful history, playing host over the years to a torrid affair, a murder and a kidnapping (see link). It was also a second home for years of the artist Maxfield Parrish...his wife would often invite my mother and her sister (who lived down the road) down to pick blueberries. My aunt still lives on land that belonged to the original plantation.

This link will tell you more, along with more names that go with the area.

Thank you so much everyone for all your help and suggestions! I have so many great ideas. I've got a name for my fiction town and university and know where it would be if it was real and have some great characteristics and such. You have all been such a huge help. I really appriciate it.

When you publish, be sure to post an Amazon link to your book.

Valdosta has a university; don't go there for a locale. But try researching Quitman in Brooks County. Tons of history, many really interesting hills and vales, many swamplands and bayou-like cypress swamps, a rich history of farming, plantations, hunting clubs, slavery, abandoned slave cottages, dead towns with still-existing buildings, hangings (search Moultrie for potential incarnations too). And, read "A Man In Full" for ideas on additional research opportunities - the book is set in fictional "Quitman County", with fascinating tidbits that never were fleshed out completely.
