My family and I are relocating to North GA and are considering the Canton/Woodstock areas as well as Cumming. I will be working in Alpharetta off of exit 9 on the 400 - I believe. I am primarily concerned with the commute times to and from work. My day @ work will begin @ 9am. Head home @ 5pm. I know you guys are having to answer the types of questions CONSTANTLY, but it is very very helpful!!!!

My husband works off of Exit 9 and we live at exit 13 on the east side. There are several back roads to take as well as 400 being widened. Takes him approx. 20 minutes.

Default Commute Time around 400

The closer you can live to your job the better. 400 is a nightmare, even though it is being widened. even living in Canton/Woodstock area you are looking at at least 45-60 minutes drive time, even though the actual mileage is not bad. There is so much volume on the roads going to and from (even on the back roads in Cherokee county, like 20, 140, 120, 369, etc) that it still will take you forever. Plus on the back roads they are usually 2 lane and you will get stuck behind school buses, etc. Your best bet would be to live near exit 9 on 400 or as close to that as possible. Seriously. North Fulton county/ Forsyth county is a nice place to live/work, but you don't want to drive there.

I respectfully disagree with you. It will not take that long from parts of canton. Back roads such as Union Hill rd will save you alot of time. 372 can get backed up from time to time at 369 early in the morning, but he doesn't have to be at work till 9:00 so that shouldn't be to much of a problem. However it never really hurts being close to work either. If you live on 20 i think you should make it in 30 minutes top. I have to go down that way this week I will time my self and see how long it takes me.

People are definately moving to Canton and even up the road to Ballground, Ga. and yes you can commute to Alpharetta. it takes me 20 minutes some days to get out of my Alpharetta subdivision...and I can commute across the north/south traffic to get to Ballground in 28 minutes. It is a step back in time...a breath of fresh air...just beginning to be developed...home prices are great ...development will come but right now it's kinda special. pj

Default Cumming

Be careful of traffic down Route 400 (which is the way you would be going to exit 9). We relocated to Cumming from PA a few months ago, and my husband works off of Exit 9 as well. He leaves by 6am to avoid the traffic.... It can get really bad! good luck! I don't know much about the Canton area, but when we were looking we were told to try to stay along GA400. So far, we love the area.

We live in Canton just across the Alpharetta line and it takes us on a bad morning to get to Windward and North Point Pkwy about 30 mins. An average day is about 20-25mins. People are moving out to the Canton area, but the market has really slowed WAY down and you will see the next couple of years the traffic will remain the same.

Stay along GA 400, your best bet is Cumming, anywhere off exits 12 or 13 should work for you.
I commute from exit 12 to exit 5 daily, leaving the house at 8:00 i'm at the office by 9:00 on most days. when it rains or god forbids snow add another 20 minutes to the commute.
