Hi, my name is Debby. My husband and I moved to Canton October 31, 2006. We decided to move last August and to our surprise, we found a house and sold ours in PA quite quickly - so we moved quickly.

Most of the boxes are unpacked by now, but we still haven't met anyone in the neighborhood (we are in Quail Pointe). Other than some co-workers, we have no family or friends in GA.

Any advice on where to meet local people with similar interests?

He's 29, into computers and technology and salt water aquariums.
I'm 32, like to cook, do catering, sell Pampered Chef, like to read, explore, shop etc. And we both like to go out for an adult beverage now and then.

We have no children, but have four dogs, two cats and lots of fish.

Thanks!

Welcome to Canton, we moved up here in 2002. Like you we really don't hang out with many people up here. I have an old childhood friend that moved up here recently and got married, we hang out with them about once a month. Otherwise my wife and I both work and hang out here with our daughter and the animals. There really isn't too much to do in the immediate area!

Hi Debby,

Welcome to Canton! I'm not familiar with Quail Pointe. Do you have a club house or organized neighborhood activities?

My husband and I were in a similar situation. We moved to River Green in Canton from NJ with our dog (no kids) and found it hard to meet people other than co-workers which, unfortunately, do not live anywhere near us. It seems most people in the neighborhood met through their kids at the bus stop - a disadvantage to us non-parents.

So I became a happy little volunteer to help organize events in our subdivision (we have an activities director) and through those events is how we started meeting people and making firends. That's why I asked about organized activities in Quail Pointe. Even if you don't have anything like that, you could knock on doors and be the one to start them. That's a surefire way to meet people!

I would paste some fliers around the neighborhood and hold an 'open house' Pampered Chef party in your clubhouse!

Good luck!

Trouble finding friends? most counties have political organizations that meet and talk and so on. Im just begining to get involved with the Libertarian party of Cobb county. Maybe something like that could help you guys out.

Default We are now in the process of moving to Canton

Glad to hear you love Canton. We are currently in the process of moving to Bridgemills! It is beautiful! We love water and opted to find a place on the lake! Both my husband and I are nurses. During the past 3 years I was diagnosed with cancer x 2 and decided life is to short... I now have A new lease on life - a new house and a new attitude! Our children are married and live in Ohio, KY & TN - we are moving from Ohio. We hope to meet other Buckeyes in the area!

Well, the easiest way to meet anyone in the South is to have a BBQ. I'd suggest building a horse shoe pit in your backyard for some cheap/fun entertainment. Just send a flyer out to your neighbors asking them to RSVP so you can decide if you need 1 keg or 2.

I'd highly recommend a 'Southern' bbq as well. If you're not familiar with Southern food, get familiar.

I'd also make note of the seasonal sport that is going on when preparing. In the Fall you never host anything on a Saturday, that's college football and that trumps the NFL down here. Many newly-weds have been scorned for having a wedding on the wrong Saturday.

This time of the year it's Sunday, NASCAR.

You can get by on hosting on one of these days if you have a nice, big television.

Do you like Canton so far? Stopped and ate there last week. Noticed alot of available housing there. I like Salt Water aquariums too but don't have one.

Default great church in woodstock

You should check out our church. Embassy Metro Church. We meet at the movie theater in Woodstock on Townlake Pkwy. We are laid back, wear what you wear to the movies. Come early for coffee and donughts at 9:30 on Sun mornings. We have a web-site--just google it ( I can't remember if it is .com or .org). It is the most awesome group of people I have ever met. We are loving and very nonjudgemental. My teenager daughter had never been "into" church until this one. That youth group took her in on our first visit and now she can't miss service. If you visit, find me--Tracy Jacobs!!
