Other than maybe the three-lane sections being a little slow when there is some traffic, US 76 really is not that bad of a roadway to drive on.

Even the curvy and hilly section of US 76 between lakes Chatuge and Burton is nowhere near as curvy and hilly (and even sometimes downright treacherous) as the sections of US 19-129 between north of Dahlonega and south of Blairsville and GA 60 between north of Dahlonega and Morganton (by way of Suches).
