University of Georgia graduate and die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan, Georgia Governor-elect Brian Kemp will be holding his inauguration on the campus of rival school Georgia Tech.

The ceremony for Kemp's inauguration and swearing-in as the 83rd Governor of Georgia will be held at 2pm on January 14th at McCamish Pavilion (basketball arena) on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

That feels like a big middle finger, and certainly not a way to bridge divides in the way that Nathan Deal was often able to.

Even though Kemp is a UGA graduate and a die-hard Bulldogs fan, I guess that many in the Bulldogs nation understandably might view Kemp having his inauguration and swearing-in ceremony at Georgia Tech as a 'big middle finger.'

But I do not see it that way. I see Kemp having his inauguration/swearing-in ceremony at Georgia Tech as his own unique way of attempting to reach out to both Georgia Tech fans and Democratic-leaning and very moderate Republican residents of the City of Atlanta proper and the area ITP... Parts of the state where Kemp (as a Republican candidate who ran extremely close to Donald Trump in both the GOP primary and the general election) likely has very little popularity after a couple of extremely rough campaigns in the GOP primary runoff and the general election.

I also think that Kemp and his inauguration committee were seeking a large indoor space to hold the inauguration/swearing-in ceremony after the last two gubernatorial inauguration/swearing-in ceremonies for Nathan Deal at the start of his first and second terms as governor were interrupted by inclement winter weather.

(Governor Deal's 2011 inauguration had to be cancelled because of the monster winter storm that shut down most of metro Atlanta for at least a week that year, while Deal's 2015 inauguration (which was planned to be held at the new Liberty Park public space across the street from the Capitol, IIRC) was moved inside the Georgia State Capitol because of winter weather.)

And I guess that McCamish Pavilion at Georgia Tech was a large enough indoor space that fit the bill for what Kemp and his people wanted to attempt to do with attempting to send a message of reconciliation with both Tech fans and Intown/ITP/urban core metro Atlanta residents who may still be bitter after the election season.

I also think that Kemp thinks that he has enough credibility with the Bulldog Nation as a UGA graduate and alum and as a loyal and dedicated Bulldog fan to pull off a move such as holding his inauguration ceremony at Georgia Tech.

Gov.-elect Brian Kemp is spending the final days before his inauguration traveling the state.

The “Georgians First" celebration tour will visit all corners of the state, including places in rural Georgia, such as Chula and Blakely.

There are no stops planned close to Atlanta, but the incoming governor will stop in Augusta, Columbus and Savannah.

Kemp's approval-disapproval ratings are 37-47. Not a good start for him.

For comparison's sake, Deal typically polled approval ratings anywhere from the 50s to the 70s, which means even some Democrats approved of him.

People generally don't like dudes who oversee their own elections and point guns at children (even in jest).

As a Democrat, I approved of Deal. He was a good Republican governor.
